letter to Russell Broadbent MP

Subject: ASylum seekers

Dear Mr Broadbent,
I am writing to thank you for speaking out in parliament  about the terrible plight of refugees and asylum seekers on Manus and Nauru, many of whom have now been languishing in these dreadful places for more than four years. We have inflicted great suffering on these people, who have committed no crime, and who have sought sanctuary in Australia, as is their right under the Refugee Convention. It was truly brave of you to put principle, conscience and humanity above political calculation, and there are many Australians today who are grateful to you for taking a stand. I do hope that the heartfelt views that you expressed will resonate with your parliamentary colleagues, and that we might finally achieve a humanitarian outcome for those asylum seekers and refugees who are unsuccessful in their applications for resettlement in the US. They have suffered enough, and we cannot continue to look the other way.
Yours sincerely,

Mike Griffin
