Thursday Picket of Luke Hartsuker MP's office
13 August 2015
Thursday Picket outside Luke Hartsuyker's office every Thursday between 10am and Noon. Bring a placard and join our dedicated team sending a message to our government.
We seek to keep the pressure up on the government over their horrendous policy.
There is another picket on Thursday with the Coffs Climate Change Group meeting outside the Commonwealth Bank to thank them for not supporting coal! We intend to join them at 11am
Luke's office is at 39 Little St Coffs Harbour. We hope to make this a weekly event. Coffs Growers market is on at the same time so give our MP a message and then go and support our local producers.
Next Market stall is at Bellingen on Saturday 15 August 2015
Our next RAR market stall is planned for this Saturday in Bellingen. John and Mike will be setting up at 7.00 am and we are looking for volunteers from 9.00 am until 1.00 pm to help with encouraging people to sign our latest petition, join our supporters’ group and generally interact with the public in the friendly atmosphere of the market.
We also have our new RAR T shirts on sale, plus a new supply of tea towels and shopping bags. In addition, we have just taken delivery of RAR bumper stickers which will be on sale for the first time at 50 cents each.
It’s all about spreading the word that, as a nation, we can do better than we currently do in our treatment of asylum seekers. Why not come and join us on the stall for an hour or so on Saturday?
If you can help, please email Mike on: mandm.griffin2@bigpond.com, or give him a call on 6569 5419. We look forward to hearing from you.
How this man died in Detention
There is an article in the Saturday Paper about a tragic death in custody at Perth Yongah Hill Immigration Centre.
While the bad treatment of asylum seekers on Manus Island and Nauru is known, despite the secrecy, it seems the same lack of care is happening on the Australian mainland.
Chilout Newsletter for July 2015
The latest newsletter from Chilout has arrived and can be read in full on the blog under the Chilout tab or click below
They report
Number of Children Still in Detention
- 127 children in immigration detention facilities within the Australian mainland; and
- 88 children in immigration detention facilities in Nauru.
Despite the Government’s promise to release children by the early months of this 2015, the number of children in detention has virtually remained stagnant for the past four months. Many of these children have been held in detention for years and, appallingly, it was recently reported that one child has been in detention for 1,113 days.
