Rural Australians for Refugees Bellingen and Nambucca Districts

This blog has been set up to further the cause of compassion for Asylum Seekers. We will post letters that have been sent to politicians, building up the pressure to provide compassionate support to all refugees in Australia and anywhere where people have been sent by the Australian Government. Send your letter and any reply to our email address and we will post it on the site. Any other information of use will also be posted. For Facebook page click on "contact us" tab below.

  • McElligott Theatre, St Laurence’s College 82, Stephens Rd, South Brisban

Public meeting
WHAT HAS THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT GOT TO HIDE?

Whistle blowers speakout about Nauru and Manus.

Speakers include:
* Professor David Isaacs (Paediatrician on Nauru in 2014)
* A former teacher at the Manus Island detention centre
and others.

The Australian government wants to hide the human cost of its brutal refugee deterrence policies. Detention centres are built in the remotest places. An application for a journalist visa to Nauru costs $8000 and no refund is available if rejected. The Border Force Act threatens detention centre workers with two year jail sentences if they speakout. But people are defying this Act and are speaking out about the “torture like conditions” they’ve witnessed. Please come to this meeting and hear their first hand accounts.

Followed by Q&A and nibblies

Free parking via Stephens Road entrance. Walking distance from Mater and South Brisbane bus stations and South Bank train station. Disability friendly.
