Kon Karapanagiotidis writes about the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre
In the latest edition of The Saturday Paper, Kon Karapanagiotidis, th CEO of the ASRC, writes about the Centre’s work since its establishment some 15 years ago. It is a very moving piece, in which Kon charts the work of the Centre, highlighting the highs and lows of the work of the many wonderful volunteers in the organisation. He rightly condemns the toxic “race to the bottom” of the main political parties, which has condemned so many people to a life of abject misery and hopelessness. As he says in the concluding paragraph:
“It is up to us as a community to raise the flag of hope and the hand of welcome to refugees. Politics has abandoned these people; let’s make a promise that we won’t. Our borders are safe; it is our humanity that is threatened”.
Kon’s article is a “must read”, and you can find it here.

Next Market Stall
A reminder that our next stall will be at the Coffs Harbourside market on Sunday 26th June. So far, we have had few offers of support, so if you are able to help for an hour or two between 9.00 am and 1.00 pm, then please email Mike at:mandm.griffin2@bigpond.com. It would be great to welcome some new faces, so please consider joining us! We need to continually remind both the public and our politicians that there are better, more humane, compassionate and lawful ways to deal with our asylum seekers. This is especially important in the run-up to the elections on 2nd July.
